«A little disc, just a tiny little disc …». Pisa, Feb 6th 1988. «20+1» Theater. Before their debut, a reasonable Giovanni Bruno whispers his expectations to my small tape recorder. It’s their first interview, included later in a promotional demotape. Michele Marinò is serious about it: «My ambition is to leave a document that hopefully some weird being from Mars will find 2000 years from now, so they will know that I once existed». Maurizio Falciani, cynical as usual, brings him back on Earth: «In that case we would all be very happy for you!». Alessandro Pardini is more realistic: «I’ll just try to go where I can». Talented bass player, he prefers a quiet life to music. Before Stefano Montefiori, is Nicola Cionini who replaces Alessandro for their first tour in Germany, organized as the full review

…music this good deserves more than a quick rise to the top, only to be later discarded like any other trend. Music this good is timeless. Escape into it now. You may just stay there!

It's just a beautiful, dreamy, meandering soundwave that can really make you happy! Not that it's a "quiet" record, but as hard as the drummer beats his drums, the music is never aggressive. The length of the tracks spreads from 2 1/2 to 16 minutes, from nice psychpop to overflowing spacerock. Syd Barrett's influence is not to be denied. Betti

10 years after their debut with 'Music for Astronauts', published by Music Maniac Records within the cult 'Teen Trash' series, The Strange Flowers from Pisa come back with this unexpected, yet remarkable 4-track EP entitled 'Across the River and through the trees', the first musical publication of the new Italian label 'Edizioni dei Corrieri Cosmici. The title track seems to be a 'start-back-from-where-we-left' statement, as The Strange Flowers go back to the atmospheres of the psychedelic ballads of 'Music for Astronauts'. Extremely melancholic and visionary, the song is a true trip across open spaces where sounds and words melt into a moody picture. The following two songs, a powerful cover of 13th Floor Elevator's 'You're gonna miss me' and the original, contaminated psycho-garage song full review
